I received a call from 937-250-0270 number today. Caller ID said it was an Ohio number. The person on the phone had a thick accent that was too hard for me to clearly understand him but he kept saying Microsoft. I asked for someone who spoke English but he went on with his Microsoft talk. I told him if my system is compromised I would be happy to forward his call to my law enforcement. He then sounded bewildered and started to be forceful trying to make it sound like I was screwing up. I then told him if he didn't want me to forward this call then he is more than welcome to call my law enforcement and tell them my computer has been compromised.....he hung up on me, darn. I knew it was a scam from 2 seconds into the call.
SCAM! Person calling saying they are from "MS Windows Services" saying that they are "receiving error messages" from my Windows computer. I was told my computer was in "danger of crashing" It's a scam designed to elicit money for non-existent "repairs" to your computer.
Thank you for the warning. I always look up unknown phone numbers now and find valuable information, like this warning of a scam. Thank you for taking the time to post, I appreciate it.
Just got a call from that number. They were saying they had a registration key for my Windows OS, which stopped loading updates, and that they were a 3rd party for Microsoft trying to reach me out to let know of the problem. When I asked what Windows OS they were after, they could not tell (I assume a 3rd party for Microsoft would have known that from the key that they claimed they had). When I said I was no longer using Windows, they kept talking asking if I used it in the past, etc. instead of just crossing me out of the list (for there was nothing more to fix from the Microsoft POV). Total scam!
THIS ALSO HAPPENED TO ME. I ASKED WHAT COMPUTER? THEY REPLY BY ASKING FOR YOUR M/S LISC #.
I KNEW FROM EXPERIENCE THAT M/S DOESN'T CALL YOU UNLESS YOU CALL FIRST AND THEN YOU'RE LUCKY WHEN A "REAL" TECH CALLS. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE, TOO MANY GREEDY SKILLFULL BAD PEOPLE OUT THERE!! IT'S SAFEST TO IGNORE UNKNOWN #'S AND LET VOICE MAIL DEFLECT{ AS YOU ALL PROBABLY KNOW}.
THANKS FOR THIS POST, IT MAY HELP ALOT MORE OF PEOPLE, MY BEST REGARDS TO ALL.
TINA2013....
