I was called at 11am today, no voicemail. I called back at 1pm, same response as those above--threatened to arrest me for unpaid 2010-2014 taxes in $4,986. I said I wouldn't give any more information because it sounded like a scam. And he hung up.
Glad I googled to see everyone agrees it is a scam.
I just texted my CPA and friend who is police officer and her hubby is chief, and they both said SCAM.
It's a scam!!! Just got a partial message with a computerized voice telling me I need to call back today ir the Sheriff's dept will be at my door this evening to put me in custody. It's just another scam. This is the 3rd call like this I have received.
Yes, this is a scam. There have been many iterations of this scam this week. I called the local Sheriff's dept. and they confirmed the same. The IRS would not contact you this way. FEAR mongers. Never believe it until you receive a letter in your mailbox that is truly from the IRS. :) Cheers.
Just received a digital voice call from someone claiming to be calling on behalf of IRS and that there were 4 violations that would result in "cops" coming to take me into custody. This is so fake it's not even funny. IRS NEVER calls for outstanding taxes due and if an agent (not officer) were to call they would offer their name and agent number before even speaking about the case. I called the 206-209-1603 (WA state area code btw....) and got broken up classical music. I wish I had a number for IRS what could investigate this.
