just called me telling me he was with Microsoft and that my computer had viruses. Microsoft does not call you. when i said "this is a scam", he screamed at me "this is not a scam". told him not to call again, and he screamed "oh, i will call again". What an [***].
this type of scam has called before. I didn't answer since I knew the # was not someone I know. Good I can look it up here and see that scam it really is.
Called the house at 7:30AM same thing scam. But it did benefit me greatly, I would have been late for a final as I turned my alarm off and ended up falling back to sleep :). Thank you John Kendall.
Caller with heavy accent claimed that they had detected that our computer(s) had been infected with a virus. Of course, that is possible, but I am a computer professional and my security is pretty good. Even if we had a virus infection, it is almost impossible that they could detect it remotely. So, I was skeptical. He wanted me to go to a particular URL with my web browser, but then he hung up before he could give me the address.
If you get such a call, beware! Navigating to a web site and allowing the site to modify your computer is a great way for someone to plant a virus. It's a scam... don't do it.
While the number turned up on caller ID as 347-753-9068 with the name John Kendall, I wonder if it might not have been a non-US number. The caller ID does not distinguish the country ID.
