I received a call from this number, person said they were from US Dept of Treasury and that I had won a $9000 grant. They spoke very broken English. They wanted either a credit card number of a bank acct number. I asked for verification from the US Dept of Treasury, but was transferred to a second person, who could not speak English either. I asked for a letter of verification, but of course, this could not be provided. I thanked them and hung up. Definitely a scam. As soon as I hung up, my son received a call from the same number. Really?
Offered a 9000 dollar grant, I asked three times for any way to verify that this was actually the treasury, and each time she just repeated "yes, this is the united states treasury. You're eligible for a grant for not drinking, smoking or gambling." "How do you know I don't do that?" Call dropped.
Caller said that I had an opportunity to receive a grant from the US Treasury. They asked for a credit card or some other form of bank related information to use for verification and to send the money to. I asked for further information. They said they would be glad to transfer me to the correct person. The call of course mysteriously went dead. And since they already had my phone number, why didn't they call me back.
Got a call from this number. Guy said his name was John. Heavy accent. He kept trying to read his script and I kept interrupting him with inane questions. Play games with me...I'll play right back.
