This number has been calling for two or more months. They claim to be working with a Law firm that is trying to serve me with papers for a lawsuit which has been filed against me. They ask me to verify personal information over the phone and threaten to send someone out to my job. Now they have begin to call my job!
Do you guys really owe money? Or is this a scam? Are they calling you about a legitimate debt? things that make you go hmmmmmmm. If you owe you should pay. Its that simple
>>>>If you owe you should pay. Its that simple
Slight correction, if you owe and the debt has been validated as per the FDCPA, then one should pay.
Unfortunately, someone may owe a debt and pay an unscrupulous "collector" who does not owe the debt. Then they are out the money and still legally owe that debt to the company that owns it.
A few more important points:
1. Collectors don't issue or "serve" papers, the courts do
2. No legitimate party would ever call to warn you that you are being served (e.g., target may avoid me or plan to do harm to me if they knew I was coming)
3. The BS line used by fake process servers that they will serve you at work and wish to save you the embarrassment (Seriously, I would just walk up to you in the parking lot and serve you. Take me 2 minutes and no red tape BS of going into a workplace)
4. Fraud is a criminal matter, debt a civil matter. Collectors don't charge people with criminal offenses
I agree with you. I think companies go way to far but i also know that people will find any excuses not to pay. When a collector calls i know if i owe the money they claim or not. People will do anything to get out of paying what they owe and will use any excuse not to pay. If a collection agency called me about a debt i dont know about of course i would never pay. If i do owe it i would pay. Thats all im saying.
