ITS A SCAM: CRA will first raise an assessment f which you will be notified with Appeal rights. Then payment options, then letters, then maybe a call. Agents will know your SIN or Business number, reason for the assessment, section of the act etc. Pay at bank, or send to one of the tax centres- addresses on line. You can also sign up for CRA MY Account which is great as you can look there and also use it to autofill your t slip info when doing your returns. ANYWAY, DONT FALL FOR THESE SCAMS ,
This just happened to me but it was an automated message. It completely freaked me out. I knew I didn't owe any money to the CRA & they don't throw in jail or threaten by the phone to do so. Still it was frightening. I called my accountant. He contacted the real CRA & everything of course was fine and they stressed that they don't call you or do automated messages. It is a total scam! Very awful & frightening though that someone can intimidate, and threatened you & demand money from you. My accountant reported it to the CRA.
