Similar story: Call from 202-239-8937. Spoke with 2 representatives (strong Indian accent) who informed me of a 5-year tax audit on our tax returns that reflected we owe approx $3000. In response to my questions, the rep stated that the IRS attempted to serve as with notices but that we were "unavailable". As a result a court order was issued and our house and cars were subject to a lien; bank accounts and passport were "frozen". They provided a "federal case number", "Agent Name", "Budge Number" and "employee number".
This felt real until i was given 45 minutes to resolve the issue by making a payment.
When I called back i got another rep (strong Indian accent) who advised me to go to a local Pathmark and buy a money order.....
Yes, I got a call from 202-239-8937. They said I owed $6,200 in taxes. I said this is a lie, because I file every year. I did research on in internet, and the phone number lead to nowhere. So, I said let me speak to your manager. You don't seem to know to much about me--and I never got any mailings from you at all! The lady put me on hold. I hung up and did more research. They actually called back from an 800 number that my phone did not pick up. Then I said, go ahead, and put a so-called manager on the phone. I told the manager I was on to him, and he SAID, AND I QUOTE, "Just shut up!" Then he hung up! Beware! Just HANG UP--AND LET YOUR FRIENDS KNOW TOO!
