Just received a call today saying that I was going to be arrested without a warrant in an hour! I actually laughed out loud. I reminded them today is a US holiday and that the IRS doesn't call people. He also told me that was license would be suspended. Needless to say, when I told him that I am a police officer they hung up.
I have received numerous calls from this number. Caller ID reads 'District of Columbia' 202 241 0906.
I made the mistake of answering them several calls ago and it scared the crap out of me. The person said that the tax amount that I owe the IRS is due within the next hour and that I had to wire them money or give them my bank info in order to settle the debt right now. I hung up on the guy.
They continue to call, but I will not answer it.
I called IRS and they said to just ignore it. They told me where to go to report it (mentioned in previous post) which I did.
IRS says that they DO NOT CALL to collect debt, and anyone that calls claiming to be the IRS is fake.
Don't call numbers back that you don't recognize because so many of them are using MagicJack and when you call them back, you are very likely calling another country and it could end up costing you a whole lot of money for that call from your telephone company. If you don't recognize a caller, google the number and find out who it is before you call them back. Most times you won't want to (or shouldn't) call them back.
There are far too many scammers and idiots out there, besides the debt collectors who don't follow the law, and you need to protect yourself. Just remember that if it is that important, wait to get something in the mail. Don't rely on questionable phone calls.
