Agent Richard Lew called me and left me a voice message. Saying he was a Agent from the IRS and I had to call him by today, or I would be arrested. He had a heavy foreign accent. I of course I googled the phone number and laughed that they need to get better with English.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

Now I have programed his number in my iPhone to leave him a special message. That each of his calls are being recorded, traced, and turned over to the Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint.

I will add that he just broke the law TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 43 > section 912 Whoever falsely assumes or pretends to be an officer or employee acting under the authority of the United States or any department, agency or officer thereof, and acts as such, has committed a federal offense a felony and will spend time in a Prison and will pay large fines.

Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

I wish to thank Linda for all of that information. I just received a call (which I let the answering machine take) and listened to the message as it was left. I could barely make out one word in four, as the woman's accent was so heavy. We have received a few phoney-baloney calls lately from "SSI", which is also an insurance scam but most likely not related to this one. Holy cow - these idiots must think we were born yesterday.

Recorded message basically saying in so many words that the IRS will be initiating legal action unless you or your attorney call them back.  One thing I noticed is that they say "this message is for you", not using any name, just "you".  It is an obvious scam.  I hope no one falls for it.

I received two calls from what sounds like the woman that Kathy P. was talking about. I could not understand what she was saying. But she said she was from the I.R.S and if I did not call back she said good luck. When I called back I got a message that said this phone jack is not in service so I knew this was a scam. Then the next day another one called me and this time it was a man, saying if I did not call back I would be in alot of trouble. They both sounded like they were from india. If they call back i will get there names and i will report them.one number was 202-280-7705 and the other was 202-241-1489.they have called me six times in two days.
