Was called after entering www.grantapprovalnetwork.com, a secured site that takes some information inorder to apply for government grants. The call I received later that day was that I was awarded an 8000.00 grant but would need to pay Western Union for the transfer fee. Payment would be through the Green Dot cards in the amount of 190.00 and 230.00 and 130.00 this was due to the amount of transfer and needed to have three separate tracking or MTCN. Informed that the cards are transferred to Western Union and upon the transfer the card amounts would also be refunded in the transfer. Needless to say the tracking numbers are invalid and I am told that one of the cards was invalid and I would need to send another 230.00 to replace the card. What happen to my money on the first three and the 8000.00. The names given to me was Micheal Jones at 202-241-2638 and Chris Brown at a similar number, However both sounded like they are from India. Is there a way to track green dot cards and the phone numbers provided, and to prosecute these people.
Do you know what a wire transfer is? A wire transfer is the movement of CASH money. Money that is untraceable as to where it ends up. You are sending CASH that can be picked up anywhere in the world. Nigeria, or India for example (get it?) A wire transfer is NEVER to be used for a business transaction, internet purchase, or to send money to someone you do not personally know. This is a well known advance fee scam. Anytime anyone asks you to send money - to get money. It's a scam everytime, for any reason given.
Congratulations. You just reimbursed your friend in India for his magicJack purchase, and he turned a nice profit, too. So you can bet he'll be back scamming you and other people now.

So it doesn't take long to turn a profit on this $100 investment even if only 1 to 2% of the people they call are naïve enough to believe the scammers. And India has a high poverty rate, low salaries, and a corrupt government that doesn't cooperate with our government in arresting these scammers. So to someone in India, or in many other places, for that matter, it may make cold, hard economic sense to invest in a magicJack and randomly call blocks of numbers in the hope of finding a suitably gullible person to scam.
