Left me two robo-voicemails which said they were the IRS. Tried to call back and received voicemail with a thick South Asian/Indian accent. Did not leave message. They noticed I'd called and called me back - tried to keep getting me to give me my name (which I refused). I said since you know my phone number tell me why you called. Said, let me "pull up your record" then told me they were having trouble finding it. I told them I would not give them any information and they needed to tell me why they were calling, he finally hung up. Reported to the Treasury & IRS.
There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.
USA tax payers should read this:

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

This scam is also described as scam #11, here:

Received a call from this number about 1-2 weeks ago. Message on my answering machine indicated it was from "IRS" and they had been trying to contact me. This was to be their last attempt and then IRS would be filing a lawsuit against me.
