i got a phone call on my job of all places. He really didn't have proper information wanted me to confirm information . i told them to never call me again. if it's something i need to pay send me a letter in the mail..
I received a call this morning and the lady said that she was from a law firm looking for me. I have no legal issues, so I told her she should check her information again and hung up. She did not call back. Companies sell customer's contracts, information and debts to different companies all the time. Every time you confirm your information over the phone you are re-validating old and probably, inaccurate, if not paid off debts and making them valid again for another 7 years unless you have the proper proof that is is paid and/or settled already. Really sad.
This is a cell phone # from South Carolina but comes up as a DC # to throw you off. This is a 3rd party Debt Collector for a Pay Day Loan company. The caller claimed to have legal documents for me for "check fraud" because I failed to repay a pay day loan. I told her "yes I sure did" and by the state laws in Maryland, I did not have to repay the loan because the company was not legally authorized to conduct business in my state. She "hung up on me."
