Like other reports, I received a barely understandable voice message from a man with a heavy Indian accent who says he is "Michael Brown" from the "office of the Investigation Chief of the IRS". Lots of background noise of others doing the same thing, an obvious boiler room operation. Says if I do not reply immediately he "can only wish me a good life" because the "Law Enforcement will be on my doorstep soon." A total Joke. I can appreciate a clever scam, but this is such total and obvious BS it does not deserve the stature of a scam. Ignore it.
Just received a call from the "IRS Fraud Unit" investigator, Mr. Mumbled Name in a South Asian accent, informing me that there was a "warrant out for my arrest" and was I aware of that? My caller ID identified the call as coming from a Washington DC #202-600-8683. I suspected it was a scam but rather than hang up, I decided to irritate him a bit. I asked what this was in regard to and first he said I made foreign purchases without paying the proper taxes(I didn't), then said I sent money outside of the U.S. to my "home country"(which is the U.S.). At this point I said, "I think YOU'RE a fraud and I'm going to report you and your number to the police, and even then he said he would send the local police to my door to arrest me.I called my local police and they said, it was a common scam number but there was nothing they could do to track it. They just advised I should not give any additional info to what he already had(name, phone and home address).
