I received 2 calls from this number stating they were the Internal Revenue Service and that I was in legal trouble. They wanted to know if I had an attorney who could represent me at the court house. When I questioned them they became unsure of themselves. I called the number and they answered as the Internal Revenue Service but when I asked to speak to someone who could verify that they were the IRS the lady wanted all sorts of information from me. I pushed the issue with her and I told them I did not believe they were the IRS. She became belligerent and told me to just hang up the call. They speak with a very thick India accent.

This is NOT the IRS. This is a SCAM of some sort. Do not give them any information!

I have multiple calls from this same individual stating they were the IRS claiming I was in trouble for reporting misinformation regarding my tax earned income. When I requested to discuss this matter with my account they claimed I did not need to discuss this matter with any as I was responsible for providing false information to my account. When I firmly confronted her informing I will speak with my accountant she asked to place me on hold to discuss this matter with her supervisor. When the supervisor picked up the call he could not verify my accurate information and when I confronted him he immediately hung up on me. Several days went by and they are now calling again from a different number. I have been audited in the past and have never been telephoned by the IRS correspondence was always by mail. I'm chalking this up as fraud too!!!

I received several calls, as well. They said I had committed "fraud" in tax filings from 2008-2013.
When I pressed them and told them I was on to their scam, Sean Petersen (as the "agent" referred to himself, told me I had "angered" him and said that maybe we should conduct our meeting in "his bed". Total scam.
I had fun calling them back several times yesterday. They get quite worked up. So far, they have not called me back.

Exactly what happened to Cyndee just happened to me. They claim to be the IRS, but the IRS will always contact you by mail first, or at least that has been my experience.  When I called back they asked for someone named Elizabeth.  We have had our telephone number for about 2 years now and from time to time we receive calls asking for Elizabeth.  I believe she previously had our phone number and has some unpaid debt.  My guess is that the people who called are bill collectors, but I could be wrong. Maybe it is a scam. I would block their number and not give them any information. They most definitely are not the IRS.

This is a Pakistan based IRS scam (there are also Indian based ones). Do not fall for this. Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm
The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone. Report it also to your local law enforcement agency. The scammers use voice over IP lines (e.g. magicjack (Ymax corporation). This is always against these companys' terms of use and can lead to termination of their contract. However only law enforcement can initiate the contact if you yourself are not a customer. Ultimately this is a case for the FBI legal attache in Islamabad. If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction (and the NSA can finally be a force for good).
