Just received a call from a Kalvin Jones clamming that I was in good standing with the gov't and that I was approved for a non-taxable grant for $9,200! Yeah right! This number is located somewhere in MD. I know my standing with the gov't and as of now we are not on good terms, lol! The info they try to claim that made me "qualify" for the grant, didn't even applied to me!

BBB Alert: St. Louis Mom Loses $9,000 In Phony Federal Reserve Bank Grant Deal   [excerpt]
http://www.bbb.org/stlouis/news-events/bbb-wa ... ank-grant-deal/

The woman said the scheme began in November with a phone call from a man who claimed to be with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He offered her a $7,000 grant for continuing her education. By the time the ruse ended, nearly three months later, the woman had borrowed money from relatives and friends, her bank and two payday loan companies. She used MoneyGram, Western Union and Green Dot MoneyPak cards to transfer $9,000 to thieves in New York, California and India.

Near the end of her ordeal, she said she was so upset that “I was crying all the time.” She said that family members, store clerks and alerts on the Green Dot cards all warned her that she might be the victim of a scam. But the warnings were “going in one ear and out the other,” she said.

She said that each time she was asked for more money, the thieves told her that all of her advance fees would be repaid when she got the grant.

Scam: Advertisements offer thousands of dollars of "free money" available in the form of government grants  [excerpt]
http://www.snopes.com/fraud/advancefee/grants.asp

* The U.S. Government does not telephone people to offer them grants.
* Grants are never guaranteed, nor are they issued for no apparent purpose, so folks should be downright suspicious of any talk of grants where the words "free" or "guarantee" are bandied about.
* Real government grants require extensive documentation with great attention to detail. There is nothing simple or painless about securing a government grant.
