This sounds like a burgeoning new scam in which they threaten jail and so forth if you don't make immediate payment. First, the IRS always contacts by mail and rarely calls, and when they do, they never make threats.
This call showed up as being from Madison, CT....I don't usually answer unknown calls but it's not the first time this number has showed up so I picked it up. It was an "urgent" recording telling me that I owe money to the IRS and to call them NOW to help settle the claim. I hung up and blocked the number.
