Got a call from this number. The pitch is offers $100 reward for Kmart, Home Depot, etc. They of course want your debit or credit card number to charge a $5.95 shipping and handling fee.
I played along and pressed "1" and gave a fake name and address and then they told me the details. I asked for their company name and web site. I checked them out and both were bogus. What is interesting is that you can call them back. The number is 203-587-7786 and is in Connecticut, but the person you get transferred to is either in Ohio or California. I tried several times and each time got a similar story, always from Calif or Ohio, but the name of the company was always different and the fee to be charged to your credit card was always different ranging from $1.99 to $7.99.
I reported them to the FTC at 877-382-4357 yesterday. With a phone number that works, surely they can catch and prosecute these dirtbags, but really its a question of whether they really want to. This number still works as I dialed it this morning. Surely the communications experts can trace this call.
