received our first call this a.m. for this number; caller ID showed Stamford, CT & this #; 5 rings to our answer machine, hung up, didn't leave message.
Caller ID said only "Customer Service" & number
Clearly a scam - fast talking gimmick to get seniors to sign up for something "free" but buried in the rap is the charge to come. I pushed 5 to "notify the server I'm not accepting."
In the future, it would be better NOT to push 5, and not to push anything. That just informs the scam callers that yours is an active, working phone number, and further, that there is a live person at the other end.
The risk is that you will now get more and more and more such calls. The calculation is that the more they call, the more likely you eventually will make a mistake, or maybe just give in.
The best defense against these odious people is not to answer their calls at all (if you have caller ID and do not recognize their supposed calling numbers), and the second best defense is just to hang up -- without doing or saying anything.
I got the same call about an hour ago. Didn't answer - but left a message - that same damn medical alert system. Someone must think I am clumsy! Fortunately I now have a Panasonic land line that blocks 250 calls. That will probably last a month or two.
Same old lame senior life alert ripoff scam. They call from different spoofed numbers. My call blocker machine vaporizes them when they try to call again.
Received call; ID only showed Stamford and this number. We answered by stating that we are on the DNC list for surveys; solicitations; telemarketers of any kind. Caller hung up.
