I received a call from an Andrew Collins today (very thick middle-eastern accent) who said he was with the United States Federal Grant Department and I have been selected to receive $9K to use anyway I choose. I have received several calls like this and when asked to repeat themselves or when pressed for any additional information they usually hang up, so I asked how was I chosen. The caller said my name and number was drawn from several who were on a demographic survey from last year. He then confirmed my information (he gave info to me) and then asked how I wanted to receive my money saying it could be issued via cash, direct deposit to a bank account or credit card, I asked how would it work if I chose cash. He told me I would have to go to a Western Union or a MoneyGram, and proceeded to give me a grant approval #DC3344 and a long distance call back number 206/201/2174 and said I would need to call his supervisor for the Western Union tracking information. I have no intentions of calling the "supervisor"
I get these calls at no less then one a day 5-6 days a week, it is a mess the incoming caller ID changes, this call was on my home phone and the ID read 000000 a day ago it was my cell and the ID was from Ohio or something. But this was the first time asking questions and pressing them for info didn't mess them up making them hang up, so I figured I would share the info I did get.
Anybody else getting similar calls file a report, here's one place you can do that at:
I received a call today stating that The U.S. Government randomly selected me to receive $9000 Dollars and all I have to do is get a green dot money pak and pay a wiring fee $320 to have it wired into my account.
Just gave these idiots the run around. I received the call from 1-000-000-0000 Private Name saying I been selected to receive $9,000 and all I had to do is call 206-201-2174 and give them the code they gave me. I sensed it was a scam so I Google'd the 206 number and thankfully found this site confirming my suspicions, so I didn't bother calling the number, but sure enough I received another call from the original number, so I told them I called and sent in my $200, this totally confused the caller with an Indian accent. after an hour or so he called me back again, this time I just acted like I didn't know what he was talking about and asked if he was talking to my son as we both had the same name. Sad thing is how many folks fall for these scams. If they call again I'm going to ask for my $200 back :-)
same exact thing happened to me.. saying I was selected to get $9,000 but I had to send them $250 out of my bank account, they then proceeded to tell me that they would wire the money to my local Walmart.. walmart does not give out large amounts of money like that.. total scam. when I caught the lady in her lies, she hung up. last I've hear from her.
I got a call from 206-201-2174, telling me I was selected to get $12,000 but I had to send them $250 out of my bank account, they then proceeded to tell me that they would wire the money to my local Walmart.. walmart does not give out large amounts of money like that.. total scam.they don't have any correct information, never call back to this number.
