Consider buying a call blocking device or phone. Many are around $50.00 and can block up to 1500 numbers. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

This litteraly just happened to us too!  They called my mom first and then they told her to have me cal back then when I did call back they hung up on me and I called again and they said I was approved for $9,000 and that I needed to pay a registration fee of $150 dollars and when I said I didn't have that amount they hung up ! How can do that! Crazy...

I received a call from a number that showed up as "85" on my phone. The person on the phone had a very thick accent and was difficult to understand. He claimed to be with the treasury department and told me I had been approved for a $9,000 grant. Since I had been looking into grants for grad school I thought maybe that was what this call was regarding, but was skeptical since I didn't think the treasury department made calls about those type of things. So I asked what the grant was for and how they had gotten my name. Now it was clarified that this was not about any type of student loan, but I was curious about the grant itself, because free money and I was slightly bored so I wanted to mess with him. He told me I would need to pick up the money form Western Union, I told him I'd rather receive the check in the mail and this my friends is where it got fun. Ever argued with a "federal employee" about why they don't trust a federal mail system? If not, I advise it. HILARIOUS. Then I was given an approval code and a phone number to call and told to call immediately, but instead I googled the number and saw many posts about this scam.
