I got a call from the same guys telling me i got a grant from the red cross for 5200,  but they needed a deposit through western union for $184. then they said that they messed up on my middle name on the file, and could not access the grant money, but for $368 they would try to access it again. by this time I knew something was wrong. I am embarrassed to say that i did send them the 184. and that was definitely not money that I could afford to lose. I really wish that i had looked up the number before I went to the western union. PLEASE DO NOT give them anything! I am so mad right now!

Just received a call from this guy with a broken middle eastern accent stating that I was to be awarded a government grant for $5200.  I just applied for a grant approx 1 week ago, not sure where this guy obtained my information, but I figured it was a scam because he wanted more information from me.  Just didn't sound right...after researching the number, it appears that this is indeed a scam.  Don't fall for it and pass the word.

Thanksa

THIS IS A SCAM. This is a version of the advance-fee-for-something scam where something is a grant, loan, lottery winnings, interest rate reduction, gift card, refund, doggie, cruise, vacation, free gas, etc., and the advance-fee is for tax, shipping, registration, insurance, secure handling, processing, etc. They may send you a fake check, may want your credit/debit card or bank account number,  or tell you to wire cash via Western Union, Moneygram, etc. They can put recurrent difficult-to-cancel monthly charges or a 1-time charge on your card or bank account, and sell account info to other criminals and you'll have to replace accounts altogether. Wired-cash is irretrievable - once it's picked up at the other end, it's untraceable and gone. If they want you to call them up for instructions, they may tell you not to discuss the wire with Western Union desk clerks but the real reason is WU clerks are familiar with these scams and will warn you not to wire the money. Report to US Postal Service Inspectors https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

Any government agency should be able to provide you with your social security number, so if you ever are questioning that it is a government agency ask them that. They called me and i believed it for a minute but then i asked them to provide me with my social and they hung up!!!!!!
