I received an email with that same phone number to our business email address stating that they were the IRS and that our tax return was under investigation and to view the report and then give them a call. However, we had not even filed our taxes for 2013 yet. I did not open it for fear it might be harmful. Will phone the IRS about this problem.
Received an email identifying themselves as the IRS, with this number attached in reference to a late filing of a return. My return was on time and has already been processed. There was an attachment that did not get opened. I will investigate and report more. I think it's a scam and possibly a virus.
I just got an e-mail - same thing. Believe it is a scam. I don't think the IRS sends e-mails unless you start the correspondence. Did not open attachment either. We are a corporation and do not usually get a refund! I wish all of these scammers would just go away!!!

This number was in an e-mail sent to me.
This is a Malicious .EXE file that infects your computer. Do not respond to the number or open the attachment in their e-mail.
REMEMBER if the IRS is after you for something they will mail you a letter, then a Certified Letter. They will never contact you by e-mail...

I did not open the attachment and I was unable to reach anyone at that phone number.
Usually a representative of any government organization will:
1) address you by name
2)sign with their name, contact and an extention
I have been contacted by Washington State Department of Revenue about some questions that they had on my filing and it was sent through secure message to my account and that message alert was sent to my email.
Rarely will a government agency, or the IRS, contact you by email.
