A man with a heavy East Indian accent called our home in Saskatchewan Canada from 206-274-6833, he CLAIMED to be with Windows or Microsoft. My husband wasnt on top of his game like usual as we HAVE had some issues with his computer in the last month and he DID send reports to Microsoft about them. This guy said that they had received several error reports and was calling to help fix them. I couldnt hear what the guy was saying, only my husbands part of the conversation and started catching on to what was going on, almost too late! The guy had my husband go to http:www.ammyy.com and download the program so that they could fix the computer by remote!!!! Lucky for us I had started looking into what was going on. These "people" are getting folks to hand over access to their computer!!! And all under the guise of being part of a TRUSTED company!!!!! Im warning everyone I can.
I received a call from this number today. The guy, who I could barely understand, wanted to fix something on my computer. He claimed that he had received a report from computer regarding Microsoft Windows and he could fix the problem for me! I told him off and hung up. What a scam!
We just got a call from this number as well. It was also a guy with a THICK accent claiming that our computer was sending a virus to HIS business. He had our name and phone number and address. We denied having a computer and hung up. He did not give up! He called BACK and was even more convincing a second time. He wanted to walk me through getting information off of my computer. I hung up. I googled the number and found this site. PLEASE POST your experience if this happens to you in order to prevent this from happening to other people! This is especially dangerous if you do ONLINE banking.
