I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. IRS has enough administrative authority under the IRS Code and related regulations to collect all taxes lawfully due the federal government. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest as related to ordinary tax disputes. Having a deficiency in taxes owed by way of audit is NOT a crime. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

Got a voice mail message from the "IRS" - of course the message started half way in but indicated that I needed to call 206-317-1467 and that I was being sued. When I first called the number it was busy with no routing or indication that it was the IRS so I called back just for fun and female that spoke poor English read her script and even included a wrong name. She said that the IRS had found that I owed $5,000 or more from taxes not paid between 2008 and 2013.
I suppose had the call gone on - I would been told that I could avert any sanctions including the prison sentence she said was a possibility if I just sent some cash today. The funny thing is because of my comments and questions she actually hung up on me.
Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

Got a call from this number, the automotive machine said "listen to me , this is our last attempt to contact you".... Etc she also said I was getting sued to call back that number. So I called and they answered in 2 rings( IRS Will leave you on hold forever btw). And I told them what I heard and he said; in his broken English, yes you are being sued. I said how do you know my name. He said your name is Lesley I said no and he hung up on me. BIG SCAM!
