The caller is a SCAM company called Grand Carribean Cruise Line or something to that extent. They try to sucker you into a cruise deal. Read the blogs about them; they do whatever they can to get your credit card # (telling you they won't charge it, they just need it to make your reservation which you can use anytime in the next 18 months). Once they have your card number they charge hundreds of dollars without telling you. THIEVES!!!!! big scam, AVOID.
Guy called several times today on my cell to inform me I had won a cruise on celebration, I listened to the him talk and he of course needed a credit card # to hold my spot on the cruise - claimed in was for port taxes.
this guy who sounds jamaican, call and said i'd won a cruise but i needed a credit card to hold it and that i had to do it today. when i said no, he got a little irratated with me and wanted me to talk to a supervisor. i hung up but he keeps calling back.
This number called me saying I won a 2 night 2 day cruise to the bahamas. When they asked for a credit card number I asked for a webpage or an email confirmation, and they said I could go to grandcaribbeancl.com and sign in with my reservation number after 48 hours where I could get all the details. I normally know better, but I am actually hospitalized at the moment with an infection in my bone, and was on some pain meds. I talked to 3 different people, very pushy, and finally agreed to only pay $118 in port taxes and an extra $99 for an ocean view cabin. Total is for $217, and at the end they tell me I have to do some tour of their Lucaya Resort, which they failed to mention until the end. Oh, and they reserve the right to charge an extra $9 per person per day if the fuel costs more than $40/barrel. Which, hello, barrels of oil are at over $80 right now.
After looking up their "customer service number" (18002218200), I found many other people scammed by this company, and fortunately only called yesterday. The best advice I saw so far is having the credit card company on the call with you while you speak to these manipulative people (even if it's legal, it's certainly unethical) and so when they try to tell you that you cannot cancel, you're credit card company can explain to them the FLORIDA LAW stating you have a right to a full refund within 30 days.
