i answered because i couldn't see the number (no glasses) and they said they were some sort of police benevolent type of deal. i've heard these were scams. told them i didn't take phone solicitations, they said they didn't want money over phone would send me something in mail. did i want to pledge 75, 50 or 35 dollars. i said no thanks, take me off your calling list. they guy had somewhat of an accent. probably from a foreign country. so annoying. need to wear my glasses all the time.
I see this is a brand new scam call, as today is day one of the complaints. My phone rang 3 times at dinnertime, and then stopped before my answering machine kicked in. The caller ID said ALERT above the number. I assume it's another form of the medic alert scam calls l've gotten ad nauseum. I called the number back to see if it's a working number--most aren't. I was surprised to get a recording: "Thank you for calling back. If you are not interested in our special offers, and wish to be placed on our do not call list, press one. I just hung up. My number is blocked from caller lD anyway.
