Got a call claimed to be from the IRS, dude with really broken english. Sounded possible from India. Heard lots of noise in the background. Hung up an called the IRS hotline an was told that indeed it was a scam.. Asked if i could provide the number, I did and they said they would immediately have their agents looking into this.
The Caller ID said the call was from ANONYMOUS. A message was left stating that he was the IRS who was filing a lawsuit against me, and to call 206-596.8726 for information regarding the case.
Received a call claiming to be IRS in Seattle, WA. They are threatening a lawsuit and want me to call them back at this number.
1. This is not the IRS.
2. They want money now!
3. IRS never calls. They write letters and even then they do not want money now!
4. Scam!
5. The phone being used is a lan line leased out to Hypercube Telecom. They were bought out by West Corp located in Lancaster, TX.
6. My opinion - they do not know that crooks leased the line...
A Bing! Web search revealed 1 comment (four days ago) via WhoCallsMe that 206-596-8726 has been conducting a phone scam in which the organization FALSELY claims to be the IRS. The commentor stated that a quick call to the IRS revealed that it was denounced as FALSE, the IRS (according to the comment) inquired of the phone number so that they could quickly look into it. Apparently a Washington, Seattle phone number, a recorded message states something to the effect of a [FAKE] lawsuit concerning the receiver of the call with instructions to call the same number back to speak with someone. My guess is that calls to the 206-596-8726 number are transferred to another number.
Got the (long distance) call at mid-afternoon local time. They left a recorded message that started in the middle about calling them back "to get more information about this case file." Now blocked.
