Rec'd a call from Seafirst Bank 206-701-6567 recording stated they were from the IRS and filing a lawsuit against me, second one in last two months, and to call this number for more information. I am a retired IRS employee and I know they do not solicit calls (unless you contact them and expecting a call in return) they use the US Mail...so please....do not fall for this scam. you can find information about scams on their website IRS.GOV....BE SAFE. The IRS will never:
•Angrily demand immediate payment over the phone, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill.
•Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
•Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
•Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.
•Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
I agree with Jean entirely - as a former Fraud Investigator, the call I got from the same source smelled like rotted Limburger cheese! No way the IRS would approach anyone via some 'pseudo-bank' (the name is defunct, the real bank now being part of Bank America) and (ohmigawd, SO dumb!) 'contacting' you via a ROBOCALL!!!!
They are also now (10/13/2015) using 206-701-6642 as a 'source' number.
message on answering machine that we are going to be sued & number left to return call is 206-701-6567. Doesn't say company name. But the caller id identifies the company as Seafirst Bank.
