I think to might be fun to, ya know, mess with these people, i.e., when they ask me if I think my house would be safer with an alarm system, say, "No, I do not!"
Got a call and the first thing they said was not to worry they are not trying to sell anything. Just wanted me to take a 30 second quiz. When told that I'm not interested and to take me off their list at which time I hung up on them. My phone kept ringing with an annoying song playing, sort of like a payback for not listening to their [***]
Some of these calls "may" be legit surveys, but most are scams or someone trying to sell something.
The scams and illegal cold sales calls usually start with someone saying they are not trying to sell anything, they just have a short survey, etc. Then they ask you some really stupid questions - stupid because any normal person would ONLY answer them one way. Questions like "Do you think your home would be safer if you had a home alarm system?" or "Have you heard that home break-ins are on the rise?".
After they ask their questions they then ask if you would like someone to come to your home to do a site evaluation for a home alarm system, or duct cleaning, or septic tank issues, or anything just as stupid.
The FCC has said that ANY survey call that is more than just a survey is considered illegal if you are on the Federal DNC list or haven't done business with them before. The reason is simple; a survey is JUST a survey, asking if someone can come to your house for ANYTHING else makes it a cold sales call!
Therefore you should ALWAYS answer people making these calls with a NO and hang up. Also, tell them not to call you again. Telling them that, even if they are a "survey" company makes it illegal for them to call you within the next 12 months.
And always file complaints with the FTC or your state attorney generals office.
And I have always been leery of anyone (that I haven't contacted directly) calling and asking me anything about my home security, when I'm home, or things I own, etc.. I wouldn't tell them anything under any circumstance.
Why tell someone you have never heard of and do not know when you are gone and whether you have a home security system!!!!!!!!!
What better time for them to schedule breaking into your unsecured home and steal everything you own!!

My mother was scammed by someone calling from this number, also same person from an Unkown number. This happened within a couple of weeks after my father died and I was away, she wasn't thinking straight after losing her husband of 53 years. He keeps calling, every day, twice sometimes. What can we do??
