Got the same call threatening legal action. As convincing as it may sound, the script used refers to a "magistrate." Problem is--for them--is magistrate is not a word in common use in the US.
Just got a call and a message from 206-777-8049.
That if don't call them back actions will be taken against me in form of law suite etc.
Obviously I am not planning to call them back
Don't be fooled by these scammers. They will even leave a message stating that they are from the government and there is a pending action against you. IT'S ALL LIES. They can be very convincing. Be aware they are from another country trying to get you to send them money. Report them.
I was awakened this morning by a woman with an Indian accent telling me she was from the U.S. Treasury Department, and that within 45 minutes to an hour, G-men would be at my door to bring me into custody for tax evasion! However, if I made the $6000. payment before then, everything would be OK. Needless to say, I don't owe the IRS $6K for anything, but, having just rolled out of bed, I was foggy, and very shaken by this call. I called my accountant, who told me about this scam. Who can I contact to report this?
Same message: T
"Treasury Dept." calling. David Smith. Threatened magistrate court if I don't call back.
Ironically, AARP has a Fraud Watch, open to anyone, any age, I reported it there too.
