I got a call this morning and it went to my voicemail. I check the voicemail and it was an automated message saying that: final notice form IRS and they are filing a law suit againt me......blah..blah..blah....... I heard the IRS will never call you but will only inform you through mail.
Received a voicemail on my landline telephone that said that I had defrauded the United States Government and that they were taking action against me. When I called back...the number was 206-855-3160...I tried to speak to someone with foreign (Indian) descent, and he told me his name was Agent Cliff Johnson #63412 and that I had defrauded the United States Government from 2008-2012. I told him to put someone on the phone that I could understand. He said he was getting his senior supervisor. The other man said that they had just received a file on me from Washington and that, not to worry, they would check it out, and get back to me in a few days. I even went as far as to give him the last 4 of my social security number.
Good thing you did not give them your entire SS Number . . . That's what these scumbags are wanting . . . Had the same call, and I hung up after 2 minutes.
I got the voice mail saying that the IRS was going to sue me for some reason and that I needed to call 206-855-3160 to discuss the matter. It's a number from the Seattle, Washington area. I called that number because I was curious. A man, speaking broken English answered and when I told him that I had gotten the message to call this number, as did many other people, he hung up on me. Ha!
It's a scam. The IRS would never call with such information. The IRS would send a registered letter so that they would have proof that I was notified. They would also offer details about me that only they would know.
NEVER give out the last 4 digits of your Social Security number - even for a call like this.
Got phone call of mechanical voice today saying the IRS is sueing me and that I need to call 206-855-3160. so when I call the number a man with Indian descent accent answered and said thank you for calling the IRS. So I said, "this is the IRS" he said "yes" so I said "prove it" he said "what...?? what do you want" I said "prove your the IRS" he then hung up.
