Phony call from "revenue service of federal government United States" in very broken English, leaving an actual automated msg on my machine. Said there is a problem and if I "want to stay in good standing and keep integrity with country, you call back immediately."
Obvious attempt to steal identity.
I called the number back for fun and to see where it would go and a person actually answered and gave an intro in very broken English that I could not understand. I said "you called me?" They asked for my name and I simply said "no." Before I could say "you should know my name, you called me" they must have realized the jig was up and didn't want to waste time with me, so they said "[***] you [***]." I replied with "[***] YOU" as he hung up.
Why is the REAL IRS not taking these [***] down asap?
It's a crying shame to realize that 1 in 10 will probably fall for this scam. I reported these guys at https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml
Not sure if this will make a difference...the wheels of the gov turn really slow...
