There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Yet another scam. Just received a call from 726-590-6524 saying from the IRS and this would be the last time I would be contacted before filing a lawsuit. The woman's voice was even as monotone as the recorded messages from the IRS. I was told to call 206-923-9309. Called the number and just rang then disconnected.
