In order for anyone here to help you you need to tell us what the problem is.  Simply saying i got a phone call and an E mail tells us nothing.  What was the phone call about?  Were they trying to collect a debt, trying to tell you you won something, or maybe trying to "give" you some grant money?  Or was it something else?  The same with the e mail, what was that about, who sent it, what did they want?

In the cartoons Dudley DoRight (the government) always rescues Nell (that would be us) from Snidley Whiplash (that would be the bad guys).  But in real life sometimes Dudley gets stuck in traffic and then Nell has to figure out how to get out of the ropes and off the train tracks herself before she becomes toast.

So please post some more concise information and we will try to help you out and even tell you how you can help yourself instead of trying to depend on a Government that is busy with the bigger picture.

I got the same thing today.  This is the email:

FTC.jpgNOTICE OF LEGAL PROCEEDINGS

Case File #             : ZQ0174528A

Social Security # :

Claim Amount     : $ 986.51

In the Civil Claims Court, United States

Between    Plaintiff(s)  and  FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION  Defendant(s)

This is in reference to your outstanding unsecure debts in past including medical bills, credit card bills, payday loans etc. It seems apparent that you have chosen to ignore all our efforts to contact you in order to resolve your debt with Bureau of Defaulters Agency.

Hence at this point you have made your intentions clear and have left us no choice but to protect our interest in this matter. We were not able to get hold of you despite repeated attempts. So the department of FTC has decided to mark this case as a flat refusal and press legal charges against you.

Do revert back if you want to get rid of these legal consequences and make a payment arrangement within the next 48 hours or else the case will be downloaded against you.

The opportunity to take care of this voluntarily is quickly coming to an end. We would hate for you to lose the option of resolving this before it goes to the next step which is a Criminal Lawsuit against you, but to do so you must take immediate action.

We will be forced to download this case against you and once it is downloaded the creditor has entire rights to inform your employer and our references regarding this issue and the law suit will be the next step which will be amounting to $5226.24 and will be totally levied upon you and that would be excluding your case charges, court charges and attorney charges.

Awaiting your prompt reply,

Legitimate process servers do not call to warn you, or to get money from you to stop the process.  They will deliver the notification without warning.

Also, if you were threatened with an "arrest warrant" via a phone call or email, read this:
http://news.uscourts.gov/warning-arrest-warrant-scam

"The warrant is phony. A valid warrant would not be served by fax or e-mail. It would be served in person by a U.S. Marshal or other law enforcement officer."

"Anyone receiving a fake arrest warrant should contact the FBI or the district U.S. Marshals Office. If there is any question regarding the authenticity of a warrant, contact your district clerk of court."

These are scam emails.  Don't respond and don't open any attachments.  Just delete them and block the sender if you can.  Here are some FBI sites that talk about them.
