CID said Unknown but the caller said something about donations for Breast Cancer patients to help them pay for medication. Don't know if this was a real call but a few things made me question it:
One - my Mom answered and they asked for me by name and did not identify themselves when she answered the call. She thought it was a friend of mine based on the woman's tone and how she asked for me. If you are really a non-profit then why identify yourself to who ever answered the phone in the hopes of a donation.
Two - the CID said unknown versus the name of the organization. That's why I listed the call type as "unknown" versus "non-profit" because I really don't know what it is.
Three - the girl was clearly reading a script and when I said no to donating started to read the "I know times are tough but if you could give just $15" section of her speech to keep trying to get money.
Four - this call was out of the blue and I have never donated anything over the phone before or looked up information on donating to any cancer charity. So where did they get my name and the idea to call me?
Five - why would a non-profit spend money on a telemarketer so that any donations they get the charity will only get 30%, if lucky, will actually go to the charity versus a phone drive with volunteers so they can get 90 - 100% of any donations?
My personal belief is that this smells like a scam so I wouldn't recommend giving them any money. If you really want to donate to a charity I suggest you contact them and not the other way around. There are just to many ways to get scammed these days so I don't trust any cold calls to my house.
