Call back says, "You've reached Mel Washington." it's possible that Mel is your caller or someone could be spoofing Mel's number. If you know Mel, he's trying to call you.
Lucky us to, once again, seem to be at the top of the spammers list of numbers to call, at least among 800Notes posters. Couldn't get to the phone; otherwise I'd have shut this one done before it went to ans. machine. Of course, no msg left. Caller ID said "WA MELVIN". Is that someone's name? Or are they reversing the order of state & town, now?
Of course this is no one/no where we know, so likely SPAM, but just wondering what ruse this time. From experience, and also the number of calls with this MO (spoofing a person's name, likely) I'd say this is probably the "Microsoft/Windows Computer Virus" Scam, but might also be the IRS scam. Been getting a slew of both of those lately. Makes me almost long for the 'solar panels' ones again; at least those are not 'threatening'!
NO info, so far, online, so I'm guessing this is a 'new' number that started up just today. Just curious if anyone knows their angle.
This also could be a phishing expedition to see if our number was still 'valid.' We've blocked so many numbers lately, the spammers have not often gotten past one ring. After getting this call, we received SIXTEEN SPAM calls over the next three days.

We do not know a "Mel Washington" nor anyone else in this area of TX. Did you get the call, too? Otherwise, why would you be searching on this number? Could he really be making that many 'wrong number' calls? Or, as you say, could someone with ill intent be spoofing his number? Trying to decide whether to report this call to the DNC or just let it go.
More likely the number is being spoofed. Unfortunately, the scammers and thieves of the world have access to this technology so they can make any phone number they want appear on your caller ID. My phone number was spoofed about a year ago and I suddenly got a lot of calls from people asking why I called them. So Mel may be the victim of spoofing or he may be trying to reach someone or he may be old and dialing the wrong numbers or he may be "butt" dialing, who knows???? With all the scammers out there the best policy is to never answer calls from persons or numbers you don't know or recognize. Get a call blocker for you land line and download a call blocking app for your cell.
