These people called at 8:45 p.m., Saturday night, with the Caller ID of 'Green Tree Serv'. What sense does that make. I live in Tennessee, and a Texas tree service is calling........
Mortgage company, supposedly. Jim Walters sold my mortgage to a Green Tree Services. Apparently, they don't keep good records of payments made. They seem to have no legal department or anyone who can be served legal papers, proof of payments, etc. The excuse provided for not having a legal department is "It's too late for that." Huh? What does that mean? They don't use fax, email, corporate mailing address, etc. They want to "settle" things "right now!", at 8:30pm on New Years Eve, over the phone, using credit cards. They readily use abusive and threatening language, trying to bully you. Very unprofessional, using legally questionable tactics to demand money, to the point of raising valid concerns about the caller's legitimacy. I have yet to positively identify this caller as being from Green Tree Services. I recommend that anyone talking to these people verify their authenticity before providing any credit card or other personal information. Just because they have a few details about you, your family and/or your mortgage, does not mean that they are legitimate. There's a lot about you that can be found through internet searches and someone's servers may have been hacked. Identity theft is VERY real. Save voicemails, record phone conversations and report abuse to your state's attorney general. If the caller is legitimate, they must still comply with the laws regarding debt collection calls. Their fear of involving attorneys suggest, to me, that they are NOT legitimate. BE VERY SUSPICIOUS OF THESE PEOPLE.
