I answered it by mistake. Evidently these crooks are spoofing local numbers in an effort to con you into answering. I won't make that mistake again. Anyway, there was a short silence after I answered, then I got a live person. The delay is a sure sign of a robodialed call. After I was connected, you could hear the sounds of a large boiler room. Sounded like dozens of scammers in the background. The woman with whom I spoke had almost unintelligible English. Sounded Indian or Middle Eastern. She asked for me by name and told me she is doing a "survey". Wanted to know how many miles I have on a car I no longer own. I just hung up.
For all the good it does, I blocked the number and reported the violation to both State and Federal Attorneys General. For good measure I also complained to my Congressman. We need new, enforceable telecommunications laws or our phones will become useless.
