interesting thing is, they keep calling on sunday
afternoons & subsequently daily since; even after 7
o'clock in the evening, without leaving a message.
as we can only imagine, the government is
taking fur lows in this current economy & are
NOT calling for any type of official business at
those hours, without stating the nature of the
call & leaving a detailed message of reference.
so, my educated guess is, it's a scavenger collection
agency, trying to pose as something they're not ....
I've gotten a couple of calls from this number after 7pm, weeknights. The first call left a message that sounded like a recording saying they are the LA County Dept of Public Health and it is not a sales call. It said it is doing a survey of LA Country residents (didn't say about WHAT) and to call back that same number on the ID if you have questions.
Thing is, with so many scams out there, anyone can claim to be a legitimate caller, with legititate business. Besides, I thought the government doesn't call people, as a rule of thumb. If they do, they should know better.
Bottom line is I don't want to talk to anyone, survey reasons or not. I have also gotten calls from this Portfolio Recovery mentioned above by Larry, but it shows that on the ID and the area code is from Virginia. I ignore them.
It is now a Federal Felony to send a misleading or fraudulent caller ID.
These calls a definitely using robo dialing with caller ID spoofing.
We are trapping their IP address; and comparing that with ISP logs to prepare to raid these boiler rooms.
All equipment will be seized; and every person will be arrested.
LA County is doing a phone survey. Whether these callers are scammers or not is TBD.
I've looked at the survey questions at the LA County Health Department website -- no way in hell would I answer those questions. It's likely they have outsourced to the lowest bidder (aka -- robo calling scum bags.)
Don;t answer -- if you do, tell them no only no but, f*** No.
I have been receiving a couple of these calls. The person I spoke to claimed my number was randomly called. I asked why call on Sunday because county offices are closed. He had no answer other than he was doing his job. He asked me how many are in the household and he needed to talk to the others as well. I knew at that point something was fishy.
My question to anyone who's gotten this call is whether they are registered gun owners. It's our suspicion that under new gun rules that people who have mental records they want to identify to confiscate their weapons. If you are contacted please post on this forum.
