If, indeed, you had written and signed a check without funds FOUR years ago, guess what? You would have gotten a letter from your bank (at least, many of them notify you of NSF checks) AND you also would have gotten a letter from the vendor you wrote the check to, so you could put it right. You can read more info here about this type of scam:

This number calls 2-3 times a day asking for someone else. They will tell me that I am lying and give personal information regarding this person and wow, how illegal is that! They are now getting americans to do the calling.
Left a message like they were representing the local sheriffs department. Did not identify what company they were calling from. You could call this a threatening phone call.

Got a message on my answering machine yesterday. They stated my name and said they were from the Alameda County Legal Services. Said they were calling in reference to case # 402032 in regards to a criminal case. They were looking for Fletcher Rouse Sr. I have no idea who this is. Anyways, I played the message over and over again trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Called my sister, she told me to google the number she said it's probably a scam. Sure enough there were pages and pages of complaints about this number. Don't fall for it peeps and spread the word. 877-286-9269 is the number. People have been scammed outta their hard earned money. The phone number that came up on caller id was 213-260-9396
Saying they were suspending my drivers license in my city and surrounding cities!
Gave a 'case' number referencing I was being sued in civil court, too!
I asked them to send over a contract with the information - they emailed it over.
Unfortunately I did pay $50.00 with my credit card but will stop that payment RIGHT NOW!
