You are absolutely right, its a scam all the way. I wonder if people seriously think you have to spend $250 on a greendot card to receive your own grant money. I find this somewhat amusing, I've known people that have ran scam call rooms before, but usually the scam is somewhat believable. These people are just plain stupid though, it was obvious that it was a scam from the first 30 seconds of talking to the girl. She told me the name of the grant I was receiving was called the "random grant" lol. Plus these people claim that they work directly for the U.S. government but aren't even smart enough to tell you that the conversation may be recorded or any of that legal [***]...

A man called me saying I was entitled to $6700.00 of I call this number 239-344-7605 and speak with a  John Wadson. I decided to google the number and found these posts helpful saying it is a scam. The number that called me is 202-214-7124. I did not bother to call the number he gave me to speak with this John Wadson. The man's english was so bad I did not understand what company he said he was calling from, only that it was through the U.S. Government.

I got the same call this morning. (10/6/14)  He called my cell phone at 4:48am, 5:51am and then at 6:40am.  I was wondering who in the hell would call me this early in the morning... I'm on Pacific Standard time so where ever he was calling me, is 5 hours ahead.  I knew he had no idea where he was calling. Since is was the same number I guess I'd answer the call.  Listened to his whole dialog  and that I needed to call John Watson to receive my money.  I figured it was a scam.  So I decided to google it. Glad that I did.

For informational purposes:

As per the Federal Grants website at http://www.grants.gov

YOU WILL NOT BE CONTACTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO OFFER YOU A GRANT.
The government does not contact people to offer them money. If you do qualify for a government grant, the government does not request payment for it.

THERE ARE NO FEES ASSOCIATED WITH APPLYING FOR A GOVERNMENT GRANT.
Providing financial information to prove that you qualify for a government grant is typical, but you should never pay money to apply for a grant. People who run scams often claim to provide help and sometimes claim to be "federal government" officials, don't be fooled by these scams that request money from you.

ALL GOVERNMENT GRANTS INVOLVE AN APPLICATION PROCESS
If you have not submitted an application for a government grant and someone claims you have been awarded one, it's a scam. Grant money is not given over the phone for a fee. In order to qualify for a grant you must apply for the specific opportunity that you are qualified to apply for.

GOVERNMENT GRANTS ARE AWARDED FOR EXPLICIT OPPORTUNITIES
Government Grants are typically awarded to states, cities, educational institutions, nonprofits and other organizations to fund research and other projects.

GOVERNMENT GRANT APPLICATIONS AND INFORMATION IS FREE
Be cautious of offers that ask for your personal information (especially financial) when requesting a fee to access grant information. You can always access free information about government grants and other benefits at Grants.gov and Govbenefits.gov
