Caller stated "We detected something wrong your computer". The inference seemed to be a need to access to my computer in order to correct the problem. The caller location is listed as Cape Coral, Florida. I told the caller that he is a liar, a cheat, and a thief and disconnected the call.
Another scam using a spoofed number! Here is info posted on the website of the legitimate owner of this phone number "Byte Shop Computers" >>> Our Business Phone Number (239 434 2232) has been Spoofed, CALL SPOOFING is a practice in which someone use technology to display a telephone number (Caller ID) that is not their own. Usually used for SCAM! We apologize about this issue!
These spoofers are stupid too. I told the man that called me that I know there's nothing wrong with my computer and that he's nothing more than a scammer but he still didn't hang up. He still tried to convince me there's something wrong with my computer. These calls are almost always coming from India despite the call spoofing number provided.
When you get a call like this and are unsure if it's a scam, protect yourself by asking a few simple questions:
1. What's the brand name of my computer?
2. What's my IP address?
3. Describe in detail the issue my computer is experiencing? If he tells you it's a virus, run your own anti-virus application and/or call your anti-virus provider for guidance.
Under no circumstances, trust these people and/or give them access to your computer.
