I applied fora job on snagajob.com and was hired for a job. I got a email saying to contact alicejones for a online interview.. she hired me and told me she was sending me a check for my work materials since this is a at home job. I received the check for almost $5000 and she wants me to deposit it and send her a copy of the deposit receipt...even with the check in my hand I don't believe this...I told her I want to talk to a manager and a guy from this number called me saying he was the manager. I couldn't hear him so I told him to have "Alice" send me his Facebook information....this was a few minutes ago..let's see what happens..
The check is no good. Do you seriously believe someone is going to hire you with nothing but an online interview and then send you a check that big? They will ask you to deposit it and then send withdraw the money and send it somewhere. The check will be no good, you will be out the money, the bank fees, and you could also possibly face criminal charges on a check that large. Remember there is a difference between the bank making the funds available and the check actually clearing. And what makes you think that a Facebook page makes anyone legit?
1. Bring the check and the envelope in which it came to your post office.
2. Tell them of the scam -- they will submit the evidence for "using the mails to defraud".
3. Return here, and tell us you read the advice given you!
Advisory:
You may have been exposed to a variation of scam #12, as described here:
