Just rec a call today, 12/8/2015.
I am registered on the Do Not Call registry. I wondered why I am receiving these calls too; the sole purpose of it is to stop the calls. Come on give me a break ... Sick of the calls all day long!!!!!
Actually, it can help. If there are hundreds/thousands of numbers they're calling and tens of people come here and state within minutes/hours/days of each other, "Received call, but no info because they hung up on the second ring," or, "... went to voicemail but they left no message," or "... five seconds after I said hello, the call was abandoned," that's all slightly valuable information. From that, you know that it's not your friend who just got a new number and didn't tell you yet. Just like I know now that with the exception of maybe one or two numbers from Chicago (area code 312 - not even my own area code, which scammers are very frequently using now to make recipients think it's a local call when it's really not, it's just spoofed) most calls from 312 are going to be junk, just like most of those out of Texas and like this one, Florida.
Assuming people aren't just coming in here and posting many bogus "Just called" comments, it's an indication that it's being used (or once was and maybe started again) as a robocall number. Now you can block the number and be almost completely sure it's something you're likely not interested in hearing ring anymore.
I just started receiving these calls in the new year on a daily basis and I mean daily. I don't know who these people are or what they want. I keep reading about people who have registered for the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY. Its a waste of time. I researched CALL BLOCKERS and just hated the thought of spending a $100.00 to stop these calls. This year I broke down and invested in a CALL BLOCKER (model with held). It was a learning curve to use one but finally peace and quiet.

This number started calling me every couple of days in the middle of work. They did this last year and I told them that I was not interested. They don't listen. So I've taken to just letting them listen on the phone while I lecture my class. They seem to have trouble hanging up.
That could be fun if you were teaching a class on telecommunications, legal, law enforcement, government, computers, ... If you get them frequently enough, maybe you could prepare a side/mini-lecture that relates to the class syllabus so when a call you know will be bogus, a scammer, etc., comes in, maybe you could even take it and work some additional fun into your curriculum.
