I just received a call on my cell phone from 281-201-6106. The man asked for me by name then identified himself as James McCoy and said he had a legal matter to resolve concerning an account. As I have no such accounts - or any accounts that would be in legal at all - I asked him to identify the account. He responded by attempting to provide me a case number. Having dealt with this type of scam before, I again asked him to identify the account - the company he was allegedly representing - and he refused. He said in order to discuss anything about the account I would have to verify the last four of my Social Security Number to which I replied that I absolutely would not. I then asked him for his company's name and informed him that I would be reporting him to the FBI to which he replied by again giving me his name. I interrupted him and told him not to call me again and hung up. I'm all too familiar with these scams. Someone claiming to be from a legal office leaves a message - or delivers it verbally if I'm unfortunate enough to have answered the call - about an alleged unpaid account from a year or so ago, threatening when I don't comply with their attempt to "resolve the issue" that I'll be arrested. The caller has just enough information to sound almost legitimate - my name, the city and county in which I reside, sometimes the last four of my Social Security Number. It's absolutely infuriating. The first time I received a call like this was about four or five years ago, and the person scared me to the point that I called my local police and filed a report against them. I also reported them to the FTC and the FBI (online), which I plan to do with this caller as well. The organizations of the last two I've reported were shut down by the FTC, and they were international rings who were using numbers that appeared to be in the U.S. I hope this one gets shut down, also, before they have a chance to scam or frighten anyone.

One additional thing is that I've noticed that these harassing calls begin each time I renew my cell phone number with the Do Not Call Registry and when I apply for a loan, whether through my credit union or another financial institution.
They just called my number as well today. They left a harassing message stating they where filing a case against with the state. They left a bogus case number even. I've dealt with idiots like this before and they use multiple numbers. I to went to my police department in the past and also the FTC with the previous companies. It is sick that they keep getting away with harassing people and lying.
