Total scam. They ID themselves as "Claims Division" --typical scammer name that means nothing. Their technique is to cold call people, who they think might be vulnerable and try to basically shock them so that they can't think straight and agree in a panic to pay money to some scam operation or another. Don't fall for it.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
If they are bothering you,
If they will not send you a debt validation letter by US mail (e-mail no good) simply block the number. Of course, they won't do this, because that would reveal their location. And that's what they don't want you to know.
Received a call from Barbara Simpson threatening to take me to court if I do not pay $615 . She had my phone number but provided an incorrect email and incorrect address for me. She said if I did not pay then I refused to comply and I will have my day in court. Who is this??? she couldn't explain or confirm who I owed money to.
