Legitimate businesses do use the do-not-call list and follow the other laws. Scammers like the ones talked about here are thieves trying to steal your money, they certainly don't care about laws like the ones prohibiting sequential dialing, predictive dialing, robocalls, do-not-call list, etc., etc. Most of them are using spoofed US telephone numbers but actually calling from offshore, where the US government has no jurisdiction.
And you're right, the FCC's resources are limited because their funding keeps being cut. If people want the government to help them -- like prosecuting these scammers -- they have to realize that doing it takes $$. Where do you think that money comes from, folks? Wake up -- lower taxes means reduced services. You can have low taxes OR good service from the government, but you can't have both.
I have a contact on my cell phone I named Scam Spammers, which I set to go directly to voicemail. Every time I get one of these calls I add it to that contact. When they call again it doesn't ring, just sends the call goes straight to voicemail. Since the scammers almost never leave a message, I'm not bothered by them any more. I have a couple of dozen numbers assigned to that contact now.
they called here several times. we hung up on them. I blocked them tonight after reading this. do not call registry has no teeth against this type of call--thanks Bush! Thanks for F***ing up part D Medicare too!
