Usually don't pick up calls from #s I don't recognize. Did this one . . . heard a beep and that's it. Called it back to see what would happen. After several seconds' delay, a recording said "I'm sorry, could not connect your call at this time. Two hundred thirty one." Bizarre. How do people set these things up?!
I got two messages today from an organization calling themselves "Easy Technical Support". They were purportedly getting a "strong signal from my computer showing that it had a virus" and telling me that they were going to "help repair it."
Since I am a technically literate user who understands how computers work and formerly taught computers and applications, and I have my computer tightly locked down, I knew immediately this was some sort of scam, and told the operators so (after determining I couldn't speak to a supervisor).
Upon calling the number back, I got a message that the number "can not be connected at this time, number 231."
The number is in FL (Miami-Dade), but the operators are probably off-shore, as both sounded like they may have been from India, judging by their pronunciation and other linguistic clues.
