***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.
Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time, date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.

I just received a call on my cell phone with two people talking. The caller was telling the other person that someone needed to served and something about being arrested. He offered to give the man a phone number when he was ready, and I hung up before I heard the number. I called back and can't get through nor leave a message. I think it was a cell phone.
Got a call, some guy "Shaun" from "Accufile" says the sheriffs dept needs to send us papers, and if they aren't received then it can all go to court at our expense and crap. Its a farce, just remember, in most (if not all) places, law enforcement doesn't get involved in serving papers for debt collection agencies.
My mom received asking for me saying they needed to serve me papers. I have never heard of receiving a call about papers being served, in most cases the papers are served tothe person.
