Received a call claiming to be my grandson. He was in the Carribean had been drinking and had an accident. He needed $2,000 to pay for damages or he would be put in jail until March.
Told him that I didn't have $2,000, he put another man on the phone who asked if I could send $500.
I asked for a number to call back and he stated that they couldn't get any incoming calls.
My grandmother recieved a call that I was in spain and recently had a car accident, that i was being detained and need 3500 to post bail. The person then called back with a woman claiming to be me and telling her that I was in trouble....My family called to make sure I was ok. Dont give them any infromation if they call you check with your loved one first this is a scam.
My father received a call asking for 3700 to be sent to an address in Spain. A woman claiming to be his granddaughter got on the phone asking for help.
My mother just got called claiming that it was her "grandson". She obviously must have given his name Nicholas away in the conversation. Person claimed he had a bad cold and was congested so it sounded like him. Said he was in trouble and out of town. Not to tell his mom. Went off with some friends and got in trouble and please don't tell. It scared me when she told me because the number is generated from Florida where his actual dad's family resides. My mother told the person disguised as Nicholas that he was underage and she certainly couldn't promise she wouldn't tell his mother. They made a mistake calling my mother's fiance "grandpa" and when she asked what's your mother's name, they hung up. I told her they were obviously moving toward the issue of help and $$$$.
